  80.    FM Toolbar is an extender of File Manager for Microsoft(R)
  81.    Windows(tm) 3.1, 3.11, and Windows for Workgroups(tm) 3.11.

  83.    Chaosoft Toolbar is an attractive alternative to the native
  84.    Windows toolbar. Fully user- customizable, it provides about
  85.    twice as many buttons, support for MS Tools, handy 'tooltips'
  86.    for novice users (a'la toolbar for Word and Excel).

  117. This is NOT freeware or public domain software.  This is software
  118. which you can "try before you buy".
  119.  
  120. You may install the program in your system and use it for an
  121. evaluation period of up to 14 days. After that time, you are
  122. required to purchase a license for continued use of the software
  123. or else stop using it. You may freely copy and distribute
  124. evaluation copies of FM Toolbar provided that all conditions
  125. specified in the distribution license are satisfied (please see
  126. the license agreement in the VENDINFO.DIZ file.)

  128. What's the difference between Evaluation and Licensed versions?
  129.  
  130. There is NO functional difference between the evaluation and
  131. licensed versions of this software (except for the 'registration
  132. reminders', displayed by the evaluation version).  Actually, it's
  133. the same program: you may convert an evaluation copy to a registered
  134. copy by entering your name and a registration code into the system.
  135. Similarly, a registered copy of the program may be
  136. 'unregistered' by deleting the registration code or by just copying
  137. the program to another machine.

  139. Evaluation copies of our products are 100% fully functional.  We
  140. make them this way so you can have a real look at them to decide
  141. whether or not they fit your needs.  Please understand that if you
  142. fail to register, and continue to use FM Toolbar beyond the eval-
  143. uation period without paying for it, don't expect the program to
  144. maintain its original functionality:  some features may become
  145. disabled.  If you need more time to decide whether you want to
  146. keep the program, we'll give you an opportunity to extend the
  147. evaluation period.  However, we cannot afford to let you use the

  175. How to purchase a license for continued use of FM Toolbar
  176. ---------------------------------------------------------

  178. ChaoSoft licenses the software on the 'per-user', not a
  179. 'per-computer' basis.  This means that you may purchase a single
  180. individual license and use FM Toolbar on more than one computer (for
  181. example, a desktop system and a notebook), provided that you are the
  182. only user of those computers and there is no possibility to use the
  183. Registered Copy by anybody else.
  184.  
  185. On the other hand, if more than one person uses a computer, every
  186. such user must purchase an individual license for continued use of
  187. the software, or a site license for the total number of users
  188. accessing the computer must be obtained.
  189.

  216. Unlike most other Windows applications, FM Toolbar is not a
  217. stand-alone program; there is no special executable file you would
  218. run to start the FM Toolbar. To use FM Toolbar, all you need is to
  219. properly install it, and it will run automatically every time you
  220. run File Manager.
  221.  
  222. 2.1. Using Setup utility
  223. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  224. FM Toolbar comes with convenient and flexible SETUP utility. Use
  225. SETUP if you want to temporarily activate/deactivate the software
  226. or install it onto your hard disk or network drive for permament
  227. use.
  228.  
  229. 2.1.1. HOW TO QUICKLY TRY OUT THE SOFTWARE
  230. ------------------------------------------
  231.  
  232. If you obtained FM Toolbar on a diskette or CD-ROM and
  233. want to take a look at the utility without installing it onto
  234. your hard disk, run SETUP.EXE from the FM Toolbar directory on the
  235. diskette or CD-ROM and choose the 'Activate' button when prompted.
  236.  
  237.   - to run SETUP.EXE, choose File | Run from main menu of Program
  238.     Manager or File Manager and type into the 'Run' dialog box:
  239.  
  240.         A:\TOOLBAR\SETUP.EXE
  241.  
  242.     (assuming that the diskette is inserted into the 'A' floppy
  243.     drive)
  244.  
  245. After that, run File Manager. You should see a new item in the
  246. main menu, Toolbar (If there is no such an item, FM Toolbar has
  247. not been activated; see information below in this file for
  248. possible reasons.) Of course, be sure that the diskette or CD with
  249. FM Toolbar is available during the loading of File Manager!
  250.  
  251. Now, if you see that FM Toolbar is not what you need, just run
  252. SETUP.EXE and choose the 'Deactivate' button. Your system will
  253. forget all about FM Toolbar!
  254.  
  255. On the other hand, if you want to give the program a longer try
  256. and wish to install it onto your hard disk or network drive,
  257. choose the 'Install' button when SETUP.EXE prompts you. Please see
  258. the next section for more information.
  259.  
  260. 2.1.2. Installing on a hard disk or network drive
  261. -------------------------------------------------
  262.  
  263. If you have already copied all the files from the FM Toolbar
  264. package onto your hard disk (for instance, you have extracted the
  265. files from an archive), run SETUP.EXE and choose the 'Activate'
  266. button.
  267.  
  268. If you don't have the FM Toolbar files on the hard disk, choose
  269. 'Install' button instead. Then, enter the path to the directory
  270. where you want FM Toolbar to be installed. In this case, SETUP.EXE
  271. will copy all the files to the new location and then activate
  272. them. In addition, you will be prompted to create a separate
  273. program group for FM Toolbar. It's not essential to have such a
  274. group, but it may be convenient. In any case, the last word is
  275. yours!
  276.  
  277. 2.1.3. Uninstalling FM Toolbar
  278. -----------------------------
  279.  
  280. To prevent File Manager from loading and using FM Toolbar, run
  281. SETUP.EXE and choose the 'Deactivate' button. If you decide to
  282. start using FM Toolbar later on, run SETUP.EXE and choose
  283. 'Activate'.
  284.  
  285. Otherwise, to completely remove FM Toolbar from your system,
  286. deactivate it with the SETUP.EXE utility (see above) and remove
  287. all the files from directory on your hard disk or network drive
  288. where you have installed FM Toolbar. In addition, delete program
  289. group 'FMToolbar' from the Program Manager, if your created it
  290. during installation.
  291.  
  292. 2.2. Registering your copy of FM Toolbar
  293. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  294. Sometimes, FM Toolbar displays a registration reminder, and the
  295. "About FM Toolbar" screen reads 'Unregistered copy'. If you have
  296. registered FM Toolbar and obtained your personal Registration Code
  297. from us, you may use it to prevent the registration reminder from
  298. being displayed and enter your name in the 'About FM Toolbar'
  299. screen. Choose 'Register' from the 'Toolbar' submenu of File
  300. Manager and when a dialog box pops up, enter your name (exactly as
  301. it appears in your Registration Acknowledgment) and the
  302. Registration Code.
  303.  
  304. Be sure to enter your name EXACTLY as it's written in the
  305. Registration Acknowledgment, including all the spaces, punctuation,
  306. and entering letters in proper case (upper or lower). If you wish
  307. your name to be spelled differently, please let us know and we'll
  308. assign a new registration code.
  309.  
  310. 2.3. Manual installation/deinstallation
  311. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  312. If the automatic installation fails for any reason, you may install
  313. FM Toolbar manually as follows:
  314.  
  315. 1. Create a directory for FM Toolbar on your hard disk, say
  316.    C:\TOOLBAR, and copy all the files from the FM Toolbar
  317.    installation disk into that directory. If you obtained the FM
  318.    Toolbar files compressed in an archive, extract all the files
  319.    from it.
  320.  
  321. 2. Close File Manager.
  322.  
  323. 3. Open file WINFILE.INI for editing (using Notepad or any other
  324.    text editor). This file is located in the WINDOWS directory on
  325.    your hard disk (or the directory you specified when installing
  326.    Windows). Please note: the file you need is WINFILE.INI, *not*
  327.    WIN.INI.
  328.  
  329.    Find the section [AddOns] in this file and enter the following
  330.    string right after the string [AddOns]:
  331.  
  332.         FM Toolbar=C:\TOOLBAR\FMTB.DLL
  333.  
  334.    (or specify the directory you copied FM Toolbar's files into,
  335.    if other than TOOLBAR).
  336.  
  337.    The resulting portion of the WINFILE.INI should look like
  338.    this:
  339.  
  340.         ...
  341.         [AddOns]
  342.         FM Toolbar=C:\TOOLBAR\FMTB.DLL
  343.         ...
  344.  
  345.    (... means other lines of the file). Save the file.
  346.  
  347. 4. Run File Manager.
  348.  
  349. If the installation has been completed successfully, you should
  350. see a new menu item, Toolbar, among the other items of the File
  351. Manager's main menu. If you cannot see the Toolbar item in the
  352. main menu of File Manager, an error has occurred. Please verify
  353. that you have done all the steps above, and, in particular, have
  354. specified the correct path in the [AddOns] section of the
  355. WINFILE.INI file. Also, make sure that the files have not been
  356. corrupted when they were copied onto your hard disk (Each file
  357. should be the same size as each file on the installation diskette)
  358.  
  359. To manually uninstall FM Toolbar:
  360.  
  361. 1. Close File Manager and remove the line 'FM Toolbar=...' from
  362.    the WINFILE.INI file (using Notepad, for example). After that,
  363.    when you restart File Manager, FM Toolbar will not be loaded.
  364.    If you decide later to start using FM Toolbar again, type the
  365.    string 'FM Toolbar=...', specifying the complete DOS path to
  366.    the FMTB.DLL file, in the [AddOn] section of the WINFILE.INI
  367.    file.
  368.  
  369. The following steps should be completed only if you wish to
  370. remove the FM Toolbar from your system permanently:
  371.  
  372. 2. Delete all the files from the directory on your hard disk where
  373.    you installed FM Toolbar;
  374.  
  375. 3. Delete program group 'FMToolbar' in the Program Manager window,
  376.    if there is one.
  377.
